Fluid Power Actuators

Rotork’s product offering of fluid power actuators encompasses GP, CP and RC200 / RCI200 ranges of scotch-yoke pneumatic actuators, GH (scotch yoke) and RH (rack and pinion) hydraulic actuators, the GO range of gas-over-oil actuators, the HPG range of high-pressure direct-gas actuators and the Skilmatic range of electro-hydraulic actuators.

In addition to quarter-turn designs, most ranges are also available for linear valve applications. Many actuators are built for critical high-speed fail-safe or emergency shutdown (ESD) duties in harsh locations, including subsea actuators for valves at depths measured in hundreds of metres.

CP

CP range pneumatic actuators are a versatile, modular, scotch yoke design available in both double-acting and spring-return configurations. The compact and efficient design yields high torques even at low pressures. The design concepts found in Rotork’s large, heavy-duty actuators has been applied to the CP range, which brings heavy-duty actuator qualities to small, quarter-turn actuators.

The actuator body is of rugged, ductile cast iron available in four body sizes. Cylinders are manufactured from carbon steel, electroless nickel-plated.

GP/ GH

GP (pneumatic) and GH (hydraulic) range scotch yoke actuators are designed to provide a rotary, quarter-turn movement for either on/off or modulating duty. The rugged yet compact design is available with two different yoke designs. The classic symmetric yoke delivers peak torque at both ends of stroke. Alternatively, they can be supplied with canted torque arms designed to deliver peak torque at only one end of stroke. Use of canted arms can often reduce actuator size, weight and cost for valves with appropriate torque demand characteristics.

LP/ LH

Pneumatic and Hydraulic Actuators for Linear Valves

Rotork manufacture a comprehensive range of double-acting and spring-return pneumatic and hydraulic actuators to suit all valve sizes. Our LP/LH linear actuators offer the advantages of compact size, high performance and a simple but highly reliable design. They are ideal for operating on/off and control functions of both globe and wedge gate valves. Both spring-return and double-acting configurations are available with either pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders.

LP/LH actuators can be fitted with handwheel (both fixed and declutch able) or hydraulic manual override if desired. They are available in both spring-down and spring-up travel direction.

Key design features

  • Carbon steel design single and double-acting cylinders. These are electroless nickel-plated to reduce surface roughness and to provide minimum friction and maximum protection against corrosion.
  • The piston rods are carbon steel and chromium-plated. This helps prevent corrosion and minimises sliding friction on the dynamic seals. The rubber seals help to avoid slip effect, even after prolonged periods without operation.
  • The visual position indicator is directly connected to the valve stem and shows actuator/valve full linear stroke.
  • Totally enclosed carbon steel spring cartridge.

Approvals and industry standards

  • Actuators certified in accordance with ATEX Directive
  • Actuators certified in accordance with PED Directive
  • Actuators certified in accordance with EAC
  • Actuators certified IP66M/67M in accordance with IEC 60529

Max. Thrust:

RH

Rack and pinion actuators often offer the most economical solution for quarter-turn valves that have a fairly constant torque requirement throughout the stroke.

RH rack and pinion hydraulic actuators are engineered to operate ball, butterfly, plug and other quarter-turn valves for either on/off or modulating service. The heavy-duty construction and compact design make this product ideal for skid manufacturers as well as offshore and process applications which require robust yet space saving valve actuation solutions.

RH actuators are available in five body sizes to produce torque output up to 3,700 Nm (29,900 lbf.in) at operating pressures up to 250 bar (3,625 psi). They are available in either double-acting or spring-return configurations.

RH actuators are designed for some of the most challenging valve actuation applications on earth. They are an excellent choice for the demanding requirements and adverse conditions found in applications for mining and offshore. The balanced design has a very compact footprint for a given output. Output torque to 700,000 Nm (6,200,000 lbf.in). Units with output torque higher than 700,000 Nm (6,200,000 lbf.in) are available upon request.

GO

The GO range of pipeline actuators is designed to use pipeline gas as the motive power source. Gas is delivered to oil tanks that convert it into hydraulic pressure. This pressurised hydraulic oil is used to drive our industry recognised scotch yoke quarter-turn and rack and pinon double-acting actuators.

Using pressurised oil as the driving fluid provides powerful and smooth actuator control and isolates the cylinder from pipeline gas. The compact, modular gas control manifolds employ poppet style control valves – a reliable design trusted throughout the industry – and are available in fail-safe versions. GO actuators are suitable for use in some of the most demanding environments in the world. The design, engineering and materials used in the construction of GO actuators ensure optimum performance even in the harshest of environments. Control configurations are available to meet virtually any operational requirements and there is a comprehensive range of high pressure control logic options.

Key design features

  • Controls are designed to operate at full pipeline pressure, eliminating possible pressure regulator failure
  • Modular and compact integrated manifold design reduces fittings and potential leakage
  • Low or high-pressure control logic options
  • Local control via lever-operated poppet valves on the multi-function manifold
  • PED or ASME approved gas/oil and power gas storage tanks
  • Speed control in both directions as standard
  • Manual hand pump can operate the actuator in case of pneumatic supply pressure loss
  • Stainless steel pressure gauge can measure gas supply pressure with psi/bar scale

Stroke time is adjusted via two hydraulic flow control valves providing smooth and precise speed control

Silkmatic

The Skilmatic range of actuators offer a unique and reliable solution for electric fail-safe and modulating control for both quarter-turn and linear valves and dampers.

They combine the simplicity of electrical operation with the precision of hydraulic control and the reliability of mechanical spring return or accumulator fail-safe action.
